The Journey

For me, recognition begins with something much simpler than an award. It is a pat on my own back for finishing the piece—for putting in the hours, working through the doubts, and getting the music across the finish line. That sense of accomplishment gives me the confidence to begin the next one.

Outside recognition is meaningful because it confirms that personal sense of pride. It reminds me that all those hours of writing and refining, the lessons of teachers and mentors, the trust of conductors, and the commitment of the orchestras and musicians who bring the music to life have led somewhere. The awards are gratifying, but the real reward is the confidence to keep learning and creating.
